There are many differences between having a student be home schooled or attend public school. I believe that homeschooling is a better learning method for the student since they have many more freedoms than restraints.
Home School
Homeschooling is teaching a child at home rather than sending them to a school. Most families who educate their children at home believe that the public schools in their area aren't up to quo or that the classrooms lack discipline. Some school districts require home schooled students to take tests to see that they are being educated equally to those in schools around them. Most of the time though school districts do close to nothing to regulate what they are learning. In 2007 it was noted that about 1.5 million students were home schooled. Since 1999 the amount of homeschool students has risen from 1.7 percent to 2.9 percent of the total students in America.
Public School
A public school is "a school that is maintained at public expense for the education of the children of a community or district and that constitutes a part of a system of free public education commonly including primary and secondary schools" (dictionary.com). Students will usually attend the public school in their district. These schools are operated locally through the school board, which is made up of locally elected officials. The school curriculum as a whole is operated through departments of education. Each state can have different curriculums since they have different departments of education. Property taxes and the government pay for most of the public schools funding.
